One smart cookie...

I just burst out laughing whenever I think of this...

This happened last evening (Dec 14th around 6:00pm!). Arjun has recently taken a fascination to rings! He just loves wearing them on his fingers or on the toy zebra's legs! (Yes, he turns his zebra upside down and puts one ring in each of the leg and carries it around!)

Anyway, last evening, we had given him a couple of his favourite cookies that he was munching and walking around the house. Anand's mom (Lakshmi Paati - Lucky Paati to Arjun) and me were in the kitchen just chatting about something when this little master walks to her and asks "Lucky Paati" to hand over her rings... (She has one on each hand).

Paati then bent down, and asked Arjun to give the cookies in exchange! He considered for a while and then placed the cookies in her hand! Mind you, they are his favourite cookies!

She then, moved the cookies to another hand, and then took off her rings and placed it in her free hand! He picked up the rings one by one and placed them in his left fingers (the thumb and pointer!). He then looked at her and gave such an innocent cherubic smile and picked up the cookies as well and walked off!!!

So there Paati was... No Cookies and No Ring!! She had been conned!!!
We just burst out laughing... Laughed so hard that there were tears in our eyes!!!

This little master can sure go a long way in life!!!

Yet Another Potty Moment!

Dec 13, 2005 -- 7:50pm PST

I was back from the gym last evening and Arjun as usual started chanting “Potty, Potty” and when I took him to sit in the potty… he raises his arms and says “Hug”… When I proceed to give him a hug, he insisted that I remove my coat (I had forgotten that I had it on!) and even helped me remove it! Then he proceeds to hug me, and puts his head on my shoulders, arms around me…and pats me a couple of times on the back and then jumps back , says “Feenish” and then heads out of the bathroom!!!

Did he need that hug? I sure needed it!!!

Me thinks that before the true sense of potty training is lost, I better take him upstairs to his room for a few minutes everyday and spend some time alone with him… J

Amma Pia
PS: I like the new names that Arjun has given me and Anand – ‘Amma Pia’ and ‘Appa Daddy’!

The perfect moment!

It was just one of those potty training moments… He has a small potty that would fit on the regular toilet bowl. I would put his potty on the toilet bowl and then make Arjun sit on it. I would then sit in front of him on the floor or on a small stool! We would then read a couple of books or just talk till he finishes peeing (if at all!) Arjun still doesn’t understand that when you pee, you stand and pee and when you poop you sit and poop! But I let him be!

When we talk, we point to different parts of the face and mention each of their names… We give each other kisses some time too!!! And maybe hugs!!! Once Arjun thinks he is finished, he would stuff a wad of toilet paper into the bowl and then say “Fee-nish” and then jump off! It is immaterial whether he even peed or not! And am not yet worried… It takes anywhere between 18 months to 30 months to get potty trained and Arjun was just 20 months when he started this potty sitting (As I call it!)

Anyway, these moments are ours! We just sit there and do something… Get away from the crowd and activities and just have a few minutes to ourselves! Infact Arjun is so smart that whenever he wants some attention from Amma, he says Potty or PooPee!

One evening, when I was not in the best of the moods, I came home from work and Arjun just wanted to go to the Potty! He just insisted and I took him upstairs when all I wanted to do was go to a corner and curl up! I took him to the potty and as usual we were in our positions – him on top of the potty and me sitting on a stool opposite him!

We were just talking when he suddenly takes his little right hand and traces all over my face – eyes, nose, cheeks etc and then suddenly says “I lobe you” and leans forward and gives me a kissie! I was overwhelmed! If my love for him at that time could have been siphoned off and poured into a vessel, I promise you, no container on earth would have been big enough to hold it all!!!

It was for me a perfect moment!

We then gave each other a big huggie and then in his typical fashion he announced “Feenish!” and jumped off the potty! Maybe he was intuitive… Maybe he was just being a child with his whims! What ever it was, I needed that at that moment and he filled that need!

I lobe you, Arjun!
