Daddy gets a timeout!

I don't remember the exact sequence of events - this happened so long ago - maybe 3 weeks back - but then when he is growing up so fast and doing so many new things - 3 weeks looks like a lifetime ago!

Anand was sitting in the sofa, I was in the kitchen and Arjun was hanging out somewhere in between. Apparently Anand did something that I normally would get upset at, had Arjun done it - maybe threw something or raised his voice - something - I dont remember what.

Anyway, Anand did that and Arjun and I promptly told him that he cannot do that... As mentioned in an earlier post, we try to enforce the same rules across the board - so that Arjun doesn't feel that he is the only one battling against the rules.

I thought that would be the end of it, and started walking back to the kitchen, when No...Arjun insisted that Appa needs to get a timeout... I went along with the plan -- Poor Anand, he had to get off his comfy seat on the sofa and go and sit down in the far corner, facing the wall with folded hands and legs (sitting cross legged on the floor)

The kicker - when Arjun went near him with a finger on his lips and said "Mooch!"

What does that mean ? I usually tell Arjun "Mooch" (breath in Tamil) basically to indicate that he should sit so still that even the sound of breathing should not be heard... [Legacy from *my* mom]

Wish I had thought of taking a picture - a 31 year old man sitting crosslegged on the floor, in the corner facing a wall with folded arms and a finger on his lips!

LOL :-)

The pee game?

For the past week or so, each time kiddo finishes his job at the potty, he starts asking "Can I pee here?", pointing to some location on the bathroom floor, and then I have to say "Nooo...." and then he would ask "Can I pee in the washbasin"... I go "Nooooo....."
"Can I pee on Daddy?"
"Nooooo....."
"Can I pee on Mommy?"
"Nooooo....."
"Can I pee on the table?"
"Nooooo....."
"Can I pee on the sofa?"
"Nooooo....."
"Can I pee on.....mmmmm.... something?"
"Nooooo....."

On and on it goes - he finds it funny and silly..... He obviously knows that these are not part of "Acceptable behaviours" -- So I guess this is his idea of a joke...

Was this what people were warning me about when they said that soon kids will start creating Bathroom Jokes?

Happy 2.5 Bday

August 19th marked Arjun's turning 2.5 years old. Knowing his penchant for celebrating bdays, we got him and his friend Samy (She was born Feb 21, 2004) a chocolate Bday cake --- and made them blow the candles out on August 20th.

The cake had in pink icing "Happy 2.5 Bday Arjun and Samy" written on it, and had about 12 candles shining brightly (just a random number of candles that i could fit on to the cake to make it bright for the kids) - The kids were definitely thrilled and that made my day!

Knowing Anand and I, it was no surprise that both the photo and video camera batteries died down on us right during the blowing of the candles. Small mercy, the digital camera let us snap exactly 2 pictures of the cake b4 it died down. I will put them up as soon as we get them online.

Birthdays...

When does Arjun have his birthday?
Feb 19?
Wrong Answer....

He has his birthday once a week...
Yup.... As and when he gets the fancy, he will ask us to take the scented candle, set it on the dining table, light it (Oh yeah, he knows where exactly I keep the lighter 'hidden') and then we all would stand around the table while he blows it out and then he will wait patiently for us to sing the happy birthday song.

And we have to sing all three paragraphs for him to be happy

"Happy Bday to You
Happy Bday to You
Happy Bday dear Arjun
Happy Bday to you"

"Happy Long Life to you...
Happy Long Life to you...
Happy Long Life to you dear Arjun
Happy Bday to you..."

"May the Good God(Lord) Bless you...
May the Good God(Lord) Bless you...
May the Good God(Lord) Bless dear Arjun
Happy Bday to you..."

Good thing about this

1. He doesn't ask for cake everytime the candles are blown
2. He doens't mind blowing again and again and singing even for some one else
(For example, we have sung many bdays for 2 of his friends Veni and Samy)

Guess we need to learn from kids...
It is not always about food or the surroundings - It is about the joy and the happiness of the occasion

We aim to please....

It has been too long since I blogged anything about Arjun. Too many things have happened that I wish I could put down here...

Let me start with something that happened this morning.

Around 8:15 am, Arjun and I were still sleeping in his 'big bed' in his bed room, door closed... Actually we were half awake and having a random conversation

Anand walked in, and asked us both to wake up...

We didnt - Atleast I rolled over to the other side and closed my eyes - Am having such a bad cold and cough, that I just want to continue sleeping for atleast another 24 hours.

Anyway, so Anand went and laid down on the other side of Arjun and kept asking me to wake up.

Arjun: Don't wake up MY mommy
Anand: Ok I will not wake up your mommy, I will wake up MY WIFE
Arjun: No, she is not your wife, She is MY mommy
Anand: (I could hear the delight in his voice) She is NOT my wife???
Arjun: No, she is not your wife, she is my mommy
Anand: (Definitely Delighted now) Ok, Thank you Arjun
Arjun: (In all seriousness) You are welcome Daddy!
